Paper Tube Packaging FAQs

  • Q What are the MOQ, sampling time and production lead time?

    A

The minimum order quantity depends on the tube structure, size, printing, insert and child-resistant requirements. Standard custom paper tubes generally have a lower MOQ than highly specialized child-resistant structures.

Custom samples normally take approximately 3–7 working days after the specifications, artwork and sample payment have been confirmed.

Mass production generally takes approximately 15–20 working days after sample or artwork approval and receipt of the deposit. Special child-resistant components, custom molds or complex finishing may require additional time.

  • Q Are paper tubes economical to store and ship?

    A

Small paper tubes for cartridges and pre-rolls are compact and relatively lightweight, which can help control storage and international shipping costs.

Compared with larger rigid boxes, compact tubes may use less carton space and add less packaging weight. However, assembled tubes cannot normally be shipped completely flat, so the final freight cost still depends on the tube diameter, height, quantity and packing method.

Our team can help optimize the tube dimensions and carton packing arrangement to reduce unnecessary shipping volume.

  • Q What printing and finishing options are available?

    A

Custom paper tubes can support a wide range of branding options, including:

    • CMYK printing
    • Pantone color printing
    • Matte or gloss lamination
    • Hot foil stamping
    • Embossing and debossing
    • Spot UV
    • Soft-touch finishing
    • Textured or specialty paper
    • Full-wrap custom artwork

The available finishes depend on the tube material, artwork and order quantity.

More customization options are available through our custom printed paper tube packaging.

  • Q Can the tube size be customized?

    A

Yes. The tube diameter, height, wall thickness, lid depth and internal fit can all be customized.

For the most accurate fit, please provide:

    • Product dimensions
    • Cartridge or pre-roll length
    • Product diameter
    • Required quantity per tube
    • Physical product samples when available

A physical fit test is recommended before confirming mass production.

  • Q Can you provide custom inserts inside the paper tube?

    A

Yes. Custom inserts can be developed according to the size and shape of the product.

    Common options include:

    • Paperboard inserts
    • Folded paper supports
    • Molded pulp inserts
    • Plastic trays
    • Foam inserts where appropriate

For cannabis packaging, paperboard or molded pulp is often preferred when the project requires a more paper-based presentation.

  • Q How do paper tubes protect vape cartridges and pre-rolls?

    A

The rigid cylindrical wall helps protect compact products from compression, bending and general handling damage.

For vape cartridges, a custom insert can prevent the cartridge from moving inside the tube. For pre-rolls, the correct tube diameter and internal support can reduce crushing and help keep the product organized.

The tube wall thickness can also be adjusted according to the product weight and required protection level.

  • Q Are paper tubes airtight or smell-resistant?

    A

Standard paper tubes are not normally fully airtight or smell-proof by themselves.

For improved freshness, moisture and odor protection, the tube may be combined with:

    • A sealed inner pouch
    • An internal liner
    • A fitted inner container
    • A suitable closure or sealing component
    • Individually wrapped pre-rolls

The paper tube primarily provides structure, protection and branding, while the inner packaging normally provides the main barrier performance.

  • Q Can pre-rolls directly contact the inside of a paper tube?

    A

Direct contact should only be considered when the internal material or liner is suitable for the intended product.

Depending on the project, pre-rolls may be individually wrapped, placed in an inner liner or held by a paperboard insert before being packed into the tube.

Please inform us if direct product contact is required so that the material and internal structure can be evaluated.

  • Q Are paper tubes recyclable?

    A

Paper-dominant tubes may be recyclable when they are made without difficult-to-separate plastic, metal or foam components.

For improved recyclability, the packaging can use:

    • Paperboard inserts
    • Uncoated or responsibly coated paper
    • Reduced lamination
    • Minimal plastic components
    • Easily separated internal parts

Recyclability may vary according to the final packaging construction and local recycling facilities.

  • Q Are paper tubes an eco-friendly packaging option?

    A

Paper tubes are often selected by brands seeking a more paper-based packaging direction.

The main tube body is usually made from paperboard and wrapped paper, which can reduce reliance on plastic-heavy outer packaging. Paper tubes also provide a natural surface that works well with minimalist and sustainability-focused branding.

However, the complete environmental profile depends on the coatings, adhesives, inserts, closures and other components used in the final structure.

  • Q What is the difference between a standard tube and a child-resistant tube?

    A

A standard paper tube normally uses a simple friction-fit, telescopic or lift-off lid. It is easy for adults to open but does not provide a tested child-resistant function.

A child-resistant tube includes an additional locking or controlled-opening mechanism designed to make access more difficult for children.

Standard tubes are generally more economical, while child-resistant tubes require more specialized structures and components.

  • Q What child-resistant paper tube structures are available?

    A

Child-resistant paper tubes may use controlled opening mechanisms such as:

    • Push-and-turn structures
    • Press-and-release mechanisms
    • Hidden locking systems
    • Inner child-resistant containers
    • Secondary child-resistant closures

The most appropriate structure depends on the product, tube dimensions, opening direction and local compliance requirements.

Our child-resistant paper tube packaging can be customized for pre-rolls, 510 cartridges and other compact cannabis products.

  • Q Do cannabis paper tubes need to be child resistant?

    A

Child-resistant requirements depend on the product type and the regulations of the target market.

In many regulated cannabis markets, pre-rolls and vape cartridges may require certified child-resistant packaging. A standard paper tube should not automatically be considered child resistant.

Customers should confirm the applicable packaging requirements before selecting the tube structure.

  • Q Can paper tubes hold more than one pre-roll?

    A

Yes. Paper tubes can be developed for a single joint or multiple pre-rolls.

For multi-pack applications, the tube diameter can be increased and a custom paperboard insert or divider can be added to keep the pre-rolls organized.

The final dimensions should be confirmed using the actual pre-roll length, diameter and required quantity.

  • Q Are paper tubes suitable for pre-roll joints?

    A

Yes. Slim paper tubes can be used for single pre-roll joints, mini pre-rolls and small multi-pack formats.

The tube helps protect the pre-roll from bending or being crushed while creating a clean and portable retail package. The internal diameter and height can be customized according to the joint length, diameter and number of pre-rolls.
