Child Resistant Hinged Tin Cases

Child resistant hinged tin cases are the classic flip-top tin format many brands use for  multi-pack pre-roll joint packaging —it feels a lot like a cigarette-case opening, so adult users “get it” right away. With durable tinplate construction and an integrated CR (child-resistant) mechanism , it helps meet compliance needs while still looking premium on shelf (and holding up well in real-world handling).

A key advantage of hinged tins is flexibility. You don’t have to redesign the whole package every time you change pack count—  the same style can be produced in multiple sizes and inserts, so you can offer 3-pack / 5-pack / 7-pack / 10-pack formats (and more) while keeping a consistent brand look across SKUs.

Best For
Multi-pack pre-roll joints (retail-ready, easy to present)
Pack Counts
3 / 5 / 7 / 10 pack (and other sizes on request)
CR Options
Front-press / Side-press (squeeze) mechanisms
Protection
Inserts & trays reduce movement & tip damage during shipping and daily carry

Why Hinged Tin Cases Work So Well

  • Flip-top familiarity: adult users typically don’t need instructions—open/close feels intuitive.

  • Lid stays attached: no lost lids, and it feels smoother in daily use (especially for repeat customers).

  • Durable tin shell: better crush resistance than many flexible formats, so pre-rolls stay in shape.

  • CR mechanism integration: supports compliance needs in regulated markets without making the pack feel “complicated.”

Flexible Sizes for Multi-Pack Formats

Hinged tins come in a wide range of dimensions. Many brands keep the same exterior style for a consistent shelf look, then customize the internal tray layout to match joint size and pack count (so each SKU still feels “made for it”).

3-Pack Tin
Compact format for mini bundles, promos, or sample packs.
5-Pack Tin
A popular retail choice—good balance of capacity and portability.
7-Pack Tin
A “premium” pack count that works well for curated sets.
10-Pack Tin
High-capacity format for value packs and higher-volume SKUs.

Child Resistant Opening: How the Hinged Tin Mechanism Works

Most hinged tins use front-press or side-press (squeeze) CR mechanisms. Which one makes more sense depends on tin size, the resistance level you want, and how you want the opening to feel for adult users.

Optional Style: Two-Side Press Hinged Child Resistant Tin Case

This two-side press hinged child resistant tin case features a dual squeeze-and-open mechanism on both sides of the lid.        Users must press both sides simultaneously to release the hinge, creating an effective child-resistant solution        while keeping the opening experience intuitive for adults.

Compared with sliding CR tin cases, this hinged CR tin design offers a more familiar flip-open motion,        similar to traditional cigarette tins, making it especially suitable for multi-pack pre-roll joints        such as 3-pack, 5-pack, 7-pack, and 10-pack configurations.

  • Dual side-press CR mechanism for enhanced child resistance

  • Hinged lid structure – no loose parts, retail-friendly

  • Strong tinplate construction protects pre-rolls from bending or damage

  • Suitable for custom inserts (paperboard or PVC tray)

  • Ideal for brands seeking a balance of compliance and classic opening style

This style is often selected by cannabis brands looking for a certified child resistant tin case        that feels premium, durable, and easy to use at the dispensary counter.        Custom sizes, finishes, and branding options are available upon request.

We also offer a two-side press (side-squeeze) hinged style for brands that want a different exterior look.Once the image is available, we can display it here so you can compare the styling while keeping the same hinged format.

Insert & Sealing: Protecting Pre-Rolls with a PVC Sealing Tray

Hinged tins can be paired with an optional PVC sealing tray to keep pre-rolls stable, reduce movement, and create a cleaner, more “sealed” presentation—especially when customers open the tin at retail.

Hinged Tin vs Sliding Tin vs Paper Box for Pre-Roll Packaging

Different structures fit different brand goals. Here’s a quick comparison based on production, protection, and retail experience—        the goal is to help you pick the format that matches your stage and positioning.

Key Factor
Hinged CR Tin
Paper Box
Best Use
Multi-pack pre-rolls, classic flip-top experience
Premium pre-rolls, modern open/close interaction
Lightweight packaging, cost-focused or artwork-driven SKUs
Protection
Strong crush resistance + insert-based protection
Rigid metal shell + stable sliding track
Depends on paper thickness and structural design
Closure / “Sealing” Feel
Secure close, consistent daily-use feel
Tight sliding fit, often perceived as more premium
Limited physical sealing; relies on structure and inner tray
Cost at Higher Volume
Unit cost becomes very competitive as quantity increases
Competitive at volume; structure slightly more complex
Lower entry MOQ; suitable for startups and small batches
Quick Recommendation:

Choose hinged CR tins if you want classic multi-pack retail pre-rolls and a familiar flip-top experience. Choose sliding CR tins if you’re aiming for a more premium open/close interaction. Choose paper boxes if you need a lower entry MOQ or larger artwork space— and many brands upgrade to tin as volumes grow.

Hinged Tin Case Dieline & Engineering Drawing

Engineering drawings help confirm tin dimensions, hinge position, press zones, and tray layout before mass production.  It’s a simple step that reduces risk and helps ensure the tin fits your pre-roll sizes and pack counts the way you expect.

FAQs

What is your MOQ for custom child resistant hinged tin cases?
Our recommended MOQ is 5,000 pcs. This quantity offers the best balance between unit cost and overall logistics.

If 5,000 pcs is difficult to start with, we can also support 3,000 pcs. The unit price will be higher, but in many cases the total product cost between 3,000 and 5,000 pcs is quite similar.

The bigger difference usually comes from shipping cost, which is more efficient at higher volumes. If you’re unsure which quantity makes sense, we’re happy to help you compare both options honestly.
Do you support multiple flavor or strain SKUs in one order?
Yes. This is very common for pre-roll brands.

One production order can include multiple SKUs with different artworks (for example, different strains or flavors), as long as the tin size and structure remain the same.

We can also support different insert options, such as cardboard inserts or PVC trays, depending on how you want to separate or present each SKU.
What customization options are available for hinged tin cases?
Hinged tin cases are fully customizable in both structure and appearance.

       Common customization options include:
  • CMYK printing or spot color (PMS)

  • Foil stamping (gold, silver, holographic, etc.)

  • Embossed or debossed logos

  • Different surface finishes (matte, gloss, soft-touch)

  • Cardboard inserts or PVC inserts

If you already have a finished design, we can follow it directly. If not, we can review your artwork and make production-ready suggestions.
Do you provide samples or custom pre-production samples?
For hinged tin cases, we normally do not make custom printed samples based on artwork.        This is a limitation of tin packaging.

Creating a fully customized tin sample requires dedicated tooling and setup,        and the cost is typically around USD500, which is not practical for most projects.

Instead, we provide existing samples in the same or similar size so you can test        fit, capacity, CR opening feel, and insert layout.

After the structure and size are confirmed, we will create 3D renderings        based on your artwork to preview the final appearance before mass production.
What is your production lead time?
For most custom hinged tin projects, the production lead time is around 30 days        after final artwork and structure are confirmed.

Projects with special finishes (such as foil stamping, embossing, or multiple SKUs)        may require slightly more time. We always confirm the schedule clearly before production begins.
